Time and time again, we see companies become overwhelmed by their accumulation of dark data. The question of what to do with this information—how to access it, how to organize it, and how to analyze it—looms large as we amass more and more data. But, as we discovered in our fifth annual The State of Salesforce Report, only 11% of companies are getting it right. Instead of letting unstructured data accumulate, the best companies are using the data they have now, even if it isn’t perfect, to continuously innovate and improve intelligence across their organization. Equipped with this insight, we set out to do something unique with our own report data and created a data visualization that doubled as a work of art.
One of our most striking discoveries from this year’s report was that only 11% of companies are getting the most out of Salesforce now—they’re invested in intelligent applications, focused on user experience design, and not letting imperfect data slow innovation. To showcase this and bring the other 110,000+ data points to life, we partnered with the data visualization team at Kineviz and Bay Area artists, Marina Berlin and Trent Still. After many brainstorms, the idea for Eleven Percent emerged, a physical data visualization that represents the three key trends in The State of Salesforce Report.
Creating Eleven Percent encouraged us to rethink how we use our data and learn new ways to analyze information. We hope it will inspire other organizations to take action with their own data and discover new and innovative ways to extract insights.
