WINNING! Women Innovators Network Luncheon Hits a Nerve in New York City

April 5, 2011

Before Charlie Sheen turned “winning” into the quote-worthy phrase du jour, Bluewolf has been galvanizing a community of women innovators through WIN - the Women Innovators Network.

Until now, WIN’s presence has been felt through its vast social media outlets and annual events on the West Coast. Finally, New York City enjoyed the first-ever East Coast WIN luncheon on Thursday, when 80 of the City’s women leaders across all industries met at the MoMA for networking and a keynote presentation by Tara House, Group Director at The New York Times.

We thank Tara for her motivating words to the (almost) all female audience, especially on such a pivotal day at the Times -- Times publisher Arthur Sulzburger had just announced the official rollout of the infamous paywall just minutes before the luncheon.

Tara walked us through her early career as an art director on Long Island (“Have nerve when you're a young working woman," she projected to the young professionals in the room), and through her innovating projects that helped turn the Times into the leading print and digital presence it is today. But to underscore her message -- "Heroines are in plain sight" -- Tara used the substantial artwork in MoMA’s sculpture garden, visible through the room’s floor to ceiling windows.

Tara House compared the dichotomy of the working woman to the MoMA's sculpture "The River," By Aristide Maillol: "We are twisting, falling, 'going under,' yet at the same time going with the flow of the river. I, too, feel like I'm treading water everyday."

Women who inspire. Women who lead. And women who spearhead change. That’s WIN’s motto and Tara House and the women in that room personify that for Bluewolf.
