Why You Should Pay Attention to Salesforce Health Cloud

September 21, 2016

Healthcare providers (HCPs) feel more pressure now than ever to develop relationships with their patients. This pressure comes as a result of the Affordable Healthcare Act’s (ACA) creation of better access to health information and more provider choices allowing patients to easily compare their options. Many in the Health and Life Sciences industry are turning to cloud technologies to keep up with these growing patient demands. The introduction of Salesforce’s Health Cloud provides the visibility, communication and security to create a better patient experience centered around trust.

Salesforce Health Cloud serves as a single source of all data related to a HCP’s patient. This includes treatments, care plans and general patient data. Benefits of using Health Cloud include:

  • Consistent patient views across care providers
  • Seamless patient handoffs
  • Holistic tracking of the patient throughout their treatment stages via shared data between providers
  • Better healthcare decisions by both the HPC and patient

Health Cloud doesn’t just benefit  providers, patients gain more visibility into their own health data than ever before with the ability to access their patient record at any time from any device. The ability to send alerts and direct secure messages through the platform enables easier communication between a HCP and their patient as well as HCP to HCP. This visibility builds trust and understanding between providers and patients and ensures that the care plan is understood and followed by all parties involved. This can result in higher patient retention and satisfaction, two issues top of mind for HCPs to address.

Salesforce reported that 62% of patients currently rely on their doctor to keep track of their health data and securing these patient records is vital for healthcare providers to build patient trust. With the recent release of Salesforce Shield, data records are now protected with three additional security functions:

  1. Platform encryption
  2. Event monitoring
  3. Field audit trail

With platform encryption, Salesforce put the power of encryption right in the HCP’s hands. Shield is currently testing BYOK (bring your own key), where providers can easily encrypt their own data in order to protect patient records. With the full release of BYOK expected by year end. Event monitoring builds patient-provider trust by giving insight to how users are using data including: reports exported, number of logins, data losses, and more. This data is further protected with the Field Audit Trail which monitors who accessed the record, what changes were made, and when it was accessed. These three components of Shield, build trust between providers and patients by providing the tools to secure their patient data, and govern how it is used.

Developing these quality relationship between patients and providers is becoming more necessary. With Health Cloud, patients now have access to powerful health care tools in the palm of their hand and HPCs have an innovative patient CRM that matches the cutting edge technologies of the Operating Room. At Bluewolf, we've already seen incredible transformations happening through our clients' use of Salesforce Health Cloud, and we're eager to continue driving the healthcare industry into the future, now.
