Salesforce Spring ‘16 Release: What You Need to Know

February 10, 2016

Spring is in the air which means a new Salesforce release. The Spring ’16 release builds on the tremendous changes to the user experience that came with the Winter ’16 release. The release notes, which contain 402 pages, outline new functionality designed to help you service your customer and close deals faster. Here are the top four features that impact Salesforce users most:

Streamline Data with Dashboard Filters

Dashboard filters created in Salesforce Classic can be applied and cleared in the new Lightning (however, editing, cloning, or deleting must be done in Salesforce Classic.) This feature lets users customize their dashboards and display only the most relevant records, saving them valuable time during their day-to-day.

Collaborate Seamlessly in Chatter

Now Chatter Free, Chatter Plus, and Chatter External licensees can use the Lightning Experience, which allows Salesforce users to collaborate with coworkers or customers without Salesforce. The Spring ‘16 release also enables users to invite customers to private Chatter groups, which drives collaboration on projects. All communication can now live in one place, making it easier for employees and their customers to stay on top of tasks.

Edit Records Quickly

Inline editing is now available in Lightning. Double clicking or selecting the edit icon next to a field now opens up the entire record, giving users the option to edit several fields at once. Plus, a friendly pop-up reminds users to save their draft if they try to leave the page without saving, so fewer edits are lost.

Track Assets with Ease

Assets help users track the products a company sells to its customers, and to find details such as serial numbers and purchase dates. In Lightning, assets can have a parent asset and a root asset (which can include up to 50 levels), This allows users to represent complex products. This new functionality is incredibly useful if your organization sells items that have many components, all of which need to be tracked individually.
