Parsons MFA Students “Disrupt” Bluewolf’s NYC Office

July 16, 2015

At Bluewolf, we thrive on disrupting the status quo. We always look to defy conventional thinking and love to be inspired by others doing the same.

Which is why, when looking at the blank, white walls of our New York office, we saw an opportunity. We partnered with Parsons School of Design to create the Bluewolf Art Installation Scholarship, which invites MFA students to “disrupt” our office environment with art to inspire employees and to spark different ways of thinking. The biannual showcase features two student artists, offering the winning artists financial awards and the opportunity to design and execute site-specific installations of their artwork.

Our inaugural program, “In Between Abstraction,” features the work of Tariku Shiferaw, a mixed media artist and painter, and Ryota Sato, a silkscreen artist. Shiferaw’s paintings explore the symbol X which, he says, “can have multiple meanings: an unknown variable, demarcation, cancellation.” Sato’s silkscreens unpack the parallels between art and technology in the current digital era: “In my work, you see a single image printed hundreds of times in over 450 different colors. The image can no longer be identified without studying all of the layers, much in the same way that data cannot be understood without analysis.”

Both installations are unexpected but welcome features in our New York office. Aditi Chaturvedi, a Bluewolf Beyond consultant, loves the energy the new artwork adds to the space. “Our office now feels half consulting agency, half art gallery. Every new visitor is curious about the installations, and new conversations constantly arise about what the work means. Simply discussing different ways of viewing art often inspires different ways of thinking about how we do our jobs.”

Saar Calev, a Bluewolf Delivery Director, is enthusiastic about the office’s response to the artwork. “We’re excited by our employees’ interest in the artwork and  the conversations it inspires. Those conversations will improve the ways in which we work with each other and our clients.”
