The Pack Tees Off with Youth Golf Foundation

November 26, 2013

In my five months as a member of the Bluewolf pack, I have heard a great deal about how Bluewolf is a “customer obsessed” company. Bluewolf is helping our clients by enabling their organizations to own “customer moments,” and to learn how to treat their customers not as transactions, but as people. You’ll probably agree that helping clients better engage with their customers is good for business. But after participating in The First Tee event last month, it got me thinking that Bluewolf is also a company not just focused on the bottom line—but also committed to being a good corporate citizen. Is it too much to say that Bluewolf is “community obsessed?” Read on.

With Thanksgiving coming up in just a few days, I reflected on what an amazing experience I had last month as a participant in the First Tee event in San Francisco. It was a spectacular early fall day out at the Harding Park Golf Course. One of those days in October in San Francisco when the skies are blue, the wind is calm, and the fog is nowhere to be seen.

In the spirit of giving back to the community, The Pack has been a corporate sponsor of The First Tee event for the past eight years. This year I had the opportunity to see first-hand what “The Pack Gives Back” is all about.

When I arrived at the golf course I was greeted by many smiling faces from the First Tee program. It was great to see so many people out supporting Bluewolf’s philanthropic efforts. We loaded up our carts and headed out for, coincidentally, the first tee. My foursome had a great time on the course, even though we didn’t make much of a run on the leaderboard.

As the sun was setting and my group finished our final hole, I thought that to myself, “Hey, a pretty successful day.” It’s always great to further relationships with prospects and partners in a relaxed setting. The closing dinner event was almost upon us, where everyone gathers to the program and why we’re here. Reyhan Griffin, who has been a member of the First Tee of San Francisco for 7 years, won the Wells Fargo “Succeeding Together” video contest this past April.

In winning the contest, Reyhan earned a trip to Charlotte, NC to play in the Wells Fargo Championship Pro-Am with PGA tour pro Rickie Fowler. It is no easy feat to speak in front of a large public group, but Reyhan got up and spoke confidently about his experiences with the First Tee program. Reyhan talked about not just learning to play golf well, but also some important life lessons around confidence and integrity. Some pretty heavy stuff from a 13 year old, but great evidence that Bluewolf’s support of the First Tee Program is having a real impact in the local community.

If Bluewolf thinks its more important for employees to play golf (even for just one day), instead of helping to spread the customer obsession message to potential clients, then maybe we are “community obsessed” too. With Thanksgiving this week, that is something to be thankful for.
