August 26, 2014
It’s been four months since Marketo's Marketing Nation Summit, and with each new release, we’re seeing more announcements from the summit come to life. Marketo’s July 2014 release saw a major facelift with a sleek new UI, as well as a focus on their two major announcements: the Marketing Calendar that marketers have been anticipating, as well as real-time personalization to create dynamic experiences for anonymous website visitors.
The August 2014 release expands upon these features, including some additional upgrades to user permissions, email deliverability, and Program Management. The following key features are included in the August release:
- Marketing Calendar Licenses
Back in July, Marketo released a brand new application: the Marketing Calendar. This tool enables marketers to plan, coordinate, and communicate all of their activities via a single, dynamic calendar view.
It’s likely that you have hundreds of different programs and folders within your Marketo instance, each one containing webinars, email blast programs, smart campaigns, local assets, and more. With Marketing Calendar, you can view all of these assets, tentative and committed activities in one place, to help your marketing team plan, coordinate, and communicate more effectively.
The Marketing Calendar was free to all users in July, but with the August 2014 release, only five free Marketing Calendar licenses are included. You have until September 5th to issue your five licenses, so make sure you take the time to consider which of your team members will get the most value from the calendar, and provide the most value for your organization. Additionally, you can always purchase more licenses from Marketo. - New User Permissions
Five new user permissions have been added to Marketo, enabling tighter control of user access to functionality within the tool:
- Access Revenue Explorer
If you have purchased Marketo’s Revenue Cycle Analytics, a marketing analytics solution tool, you now have the ability to control who has access to it. - Import List
Restrict users from importing lists into the lead database. - List Import
Restrict users from importing lists via a program under marketing activities. - Schedule Batch Campaign
Control who can and cannot schedule batch campaign runs. - Activate Trigger Campaign
You will now have the ability to control who can and cannot activate trigger campaigns.
- Access Revenue Explorer
- Export Users and Roles from Admin
You now have the ability to export a full list of your users and users roles from Marketo into Excel. You can also identify when a specific user last logged in by including a ‘Last Login’ timestamp to the report you are exporting. This new function can be useful if you need to complete an audit of all your Marketo users within your instance. - Move Smart Campaigns Between Programs
This may seem like an insignificant feature, but it can save marketers a great deal of time. Now you can simply drag and drop to move a Smart Campaign into a Program, or between Programs, without cloning the Smart Campaign, re-entering information, or deleting the original. - Delete Channels and Tags
Tags are a way of grouping data for reporting purposes. This function provides the ability to categorize data and define how you want to report on any particular Program in order to understand the Program effectiveness and ROI. Marketo Administrators have the ability to create custom tags. Now, you can also delete any unused channels and statuses. However, keep in mind that if a channel is associated with any program(s), you can’t delete, and can only hide. - Automated DKIM
For enhanced deliverability, all outgoing emails will be DKIM signed by an encrypted digital signature. DKIM is an authentication protocol that is used by email receivers to determine if an email message was sent by who it says it was sent by. Your subscribers, prospects and customers can be confident that any message sent from you is not a forgery.
