Marc Benioff's Greatest Show On Earth: What It Means For Salesforce, Oracle, And Others

Salesforce.com‘s Dreamforce event is finally winding down (bye-bye bright green grass on Howard Street), just as Apple‘s new iPhone is taking the center stage in techland’s remarkably short attention span. But what happened this week tells us a lot about the future of Salesforce and the industry saplings that will come out of its pioneering path. It is worth a look-back.

Social was the big push, of course. Marc Benioff on stage, voice booming, glitter sneakers twinkling, heralded “the social revolution”. He cited socially-eager customers including General Electric, which wants to make its turbines social creatures, it seems, and Virgin America, which might soon ping you mid-flight regarding that nasty delay you vented about on Twitter. This was the backdrop for Salesforce’s new marketing software, which combines two acquisitions done recently, Radian6 and BuddyMedia.
