It’s no question that mobile, social, and cloud technologies are blurring the lines between consumer and business technology landscapes. The consumerization of IT and BYOD are driving increasing demand for mobile applications that improve workflows. According to IDG, the support of personally owned laptops (57%) and tablets (51%) will swap places in the next 12-18 months with 50% and 58% supported, respectively. This means less laptops, and more mobile.
The vehicle for real-time engagement now lies in an employee’s pocket or purse. Companies have the opportunity to improve customer engagement and employee collaboration, putting the right tools in the right hands, at the right time. Enabling a mobile workforce is much more than simply giving your employees tablets equipped with basic email, calendar, and a browser and sending them off into the field. If companies want to fully tap into the benefits of a mobile workforce, they need to develop effective enterprise mobile applications.
Quite simply, people want to use technology at work the same way that the use it in their personal lives. Businesses are catching on to this, with innovative organizations bringing a mobile lens to their applications. CIOs and line-of-business (LOB) executives are beginning to experiment with enterprise mobile applications to better engage their customers and employees.
