Disrupt or Be Disrupted: Key Themes of Salesforce App Cloud

September 17, 2015

Speed is the new currency; disrupt or be disrupted. That was the rallying cry of the App Cloud Keynote: “Experience a New Way to Build Apps.”

Tod Nielsen, EVP of Platform at Salesforce, highlighted the promise of the new App Cloud. An evolution of the Salesforce1 Platform, it is a world where you can create apps that get companies closer to customers and partners, and can easily scale across devices.

Today’s mobile experience — whether it’s B2B, gaming, or retail — has to be very personalized and connected. Users expect companies to know them, and to engage with them in ways they want; the experience should feel like it’s specifically crafted for the individual end user.

But silos are preventing companies from building the types of apps that customers expect, including barriers in sharing data, insight, and experiences between departments. There is a greater need for deep, rich context to build applications; a need for a new platform to be connected around identity, data, and network. Additionally, the new platform can’t just reinvent the wheel, but instead must tap into the existing ecosystem to drive greater user engagement.

Here are three key themes that Neilsen emphasized for App Cloud:

Connected experience

Companies cannot simply collect data. They need to act on it to make it valuable. The new IoT Cloud allows companies to capture huge streams of data, from sensors, wearables, and devices, that produces business logic to take next best action — wherever the end user may be.

Trust

Salesforce Shield allows you to monitor, encrypt, and audit data, transferrable to any application. And with Heroku Enterprise, CIOs can better manage enterprise application development processes, resources, and users in a hybrid cloud setting.

Speed and agility

Development is no longer constrained to just a few developers. App Cloud empowers the entire organization tap into a vast knowledge base to build apps quickly with tools like App Builder, Process Builder, and AppExchange components.
