There are many ways to practice corporate social responsibility. For many of us here at Bluewolf, we focus on building strong communities to galvanize positive change in the world around us.
I have volunteered for Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in multiple states. As someone who stayed several months in a RMH in Memphis, Tennessee, this cause has always been very close to my heart. When the opportunity arose to continue my efforts in San Francisco, I jumped at the chance. I learned about Bluewolf’s philanthropy mission and engaged with our Pack Gives Back leaders, Tracy Conlon and Monica Chambless. Within two weeks, we gathered eight volunteers and budget to cook dinner for families with children in treatment at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
“To families in crisis who lack the time to prepare their own meals, the gift of you time and resources in prepared breakfast or dinner means so much.”
Upon arriving in the hospital lobby, we immediately sensed the tremendous effort that went into ensuring that this is a place where children feel safe. UCSF has done a wonderful job of making the children’s hospital feel comfortable and safe — interactive art fills the entrace space:

Our group piled into the kitchen and began prepping for dinner while the house manager explained House’s safe food rules — "you’ll wash your hands more than you ever have in your entire life.” The entire process makes the safety and well-being of the children and their families the highest priority. And, I must admit, our team wears hairnets very well.

Everyone pitched in and did a wonderful job preparing a delicious taco bar with all of the fixings. We cooked dinner for twenty people, and were able to provide families a respite to relax, chat, and enjoy a homecooked meal. We’re already looking forward to our next cook night in October, when we will hopefully get to enjoy some tricks and treats with the families.
