April 7, 2011
Today is April 6th. Masters Wednesday. For me, this day, every year, is the eve of spring.
Forget that my career has absolutely nothing to do with golf, and that my daily travels involve the more mundane topic of Information Technology. For me, Masters Wednesday is the day to look ahead and get ready for the meat of the year. So, in getting ready, here is my schedule for the next 30 days: ten cities. San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Boston, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Orlando, Austin, and San Francisco again. OK. I lied. Nine cities.
Why is my travel schedule so interesting? Well, in the next 30 days, I will visit 25 companies that have adopted Cloud Computing as a way of doing business. Real companies. Brand name, Fortune 500 organizations, that have broken through and realized that “The Cloud,” as we now call it, is a faster, more flexible, and superior way of transacting and collaborating across enterprises.
During my travels, I plan to provide intimate details, in this blog, about their experiences. I won’t name names; I won’t provide confidential information; but, in an effort to paint a true picture of how the cloud is “infecting” corporate America, I will provide the color and detail, good and bad, that is sometimes sorely missing from the hype that we digest from opportunistic vendors and bandwagon analysts.
Stay tuned. And, remember, it all starts on the back nine on Sunday.
